What can you say about the Dodge Viper? There isn’t another car that compares to its raw performance and wicked excitement. This 2003 model represents the arrival of the third generation with its great new design, folding soft top, more power, and less weight. And with a few select modifications this example looks and performs better than the factory offering.
This Viper shows just over 30k miles and comes with a clean Autocheck report. The 2003 design not only has a more aggressive look but is also lighter and faster than its predecessors. It is shorter overall yet has a longer wheelbase. And I don’t think there’s a more suitable color for this car than Viper Red. The car has tinted lenses and windows which tie in nicely with the black top. This one also wears very desirable fifth generation black chrome wheels with Nitto NT05 tires (295/35-18 front, 345/30-19 rear).
Under the hood is the monstrous V10 often referred to as the 500/500/500 setup (500+ cubic inches, 500hp, and 500ft-lbs). This is coupled to a Tremec T56 6-speed manual, while the rear end has a 3.07 gear ratio. The side exhaust note is disctinctly Viper. Performance is outstanding; this car will run an 11-second quarter mile, has a top speed of almost 200mph, and will do 0.97g on the skidpad. The brakes are very capable as well, with the 2003 model being the first year for ABS on a Viper. This car also has BC Racing adjustable coilovers front and rear which dial in that perfect stance.
The interior is also an upgrade over previous models. The black sport seats with grey suede inserts hold you low and firm, with a better seating position that is more in-line with the adjustable pedals. The layout of controls and instruments is very clean and straightforward. It almost feels like a fighter jet cockpit, but with power windows and air conditioning. Not to mention a great sound system with a subwoofer.
The Viper runs alone in the world of 2-seat roadsters. It has a remarkable modern drivetrain but still offers an old school driving experience that is missing from so many other cars in this segment. And with just a few simple upgrades this one really one really stands out. Even for a Viper.
