    Description

A Korean stoneware bowl from Goryeo dynasty circa 12th century. The conical form bowl with a small raised foot rim is covered in a celadon green glaze. Under the glaze, the interior is decorated with carved design of bands of scrolling foliage with lotus flower, a symbol of purity in Buddhism. The center medallion on the bottom also features a well carved lotus flower in full bloom. The decoration is well executed with clear outline and a lovely layout, with only small areas less well defined. The glaze displays an overall fine crackles. Three spur kiln marks remain within the foot rim as well as an old paper label with illegible script.
For celadon bowls with similar carved decoration, see koo3142 and duk 347 in the collection of National Museum of Korea.
