The Legend of the Blue Willow
"Once upon a time in China, a Chinese mandarin, Tso Ling and his beautiful daughter, Kwang-se lived in a magnificent pagoda. The Pagoda stood under the branches of the apple tree on the right of the bridge that spans the river, over which droops the famous willow tree, and in front of which is seen the graceful lines of the fence. Kwang-se, was the promised bride of an old but wealthy merchant. The girl, however, fell in love with Chang, her father's clerk. They often meet under the willow tree. One night, the lovers eloped. They fled and sailed across the sea to a cottage on an island. The mandarin pursued and caught the lovers and was about to have them killed when the gods took pity of them and transformed them into a pair of turtledoves. These are the doves seen gazing into each other's eyes flying over the willow tree where they first professed their love seen on the design. Their story lives on the Blue Willow-pattern."
Blue Willow China, in its present form originated in the United Kingdom (England) in 1790 by Thomas Turner at Caughley Pottery Works in Shropshire.
