Rare 1937 USFS Wildfire Firefighter's Book; The Western Fire Fighter's ManualThe Western Fire Fighter's Manual by E. T. Allen, others
Western Forestry and Conservation Association
With numerous diagrams and illustrations. Eight pamphlets bound together in original semi-stiff printed cover with metal clasps.
A scarce collection of fire manuals aimed at fighting forest fires in the Pacific Northwest. The Western Forestry and Conservation Association was founded in 1909 and published numerous small pamphlets as eight different "chapters" about fire safety, prevention, and fighting throughout the early 1900s.
This manual collects all eight chapters in one volume, each individually paginated and illustrated by diagrams and photo reproductions. In addition to advice and information about firefighting procedures and equipment, the manuals describe other aspects of firefighting particular to the forests of the Pacific Northwest, including how to build retaining walls and culverts to secure trails and logging safety.
There is also a chapter dedicated to proper telephone maintenance, usage, and even troubleshooting for rotary phones. A rare, well-illustrated collection of instruction for fighting western forest fires.
