    Description

Antique Ironstone Victorian G. Wooliscroft Staffordshire Vegetable Serving Dish w Green Field
    Manufactured 06/24/1853
Blue on White Transfer Ware Ironstone Vegetable Platter G. Wooliscroft Pottery Staffordshire "EON" Pattern For Your Staffordshire Pottery Collection.
Blue on white transfer ware or transferware relatively small sized platter made by the G. Wooliscroft Pottery of Hanley of Stoke-on-Trent. It is in the Ironstone EON pattern. The platter is rectangular in shape & has twelve sides.  While the border along the rim and the border around the outside is in blue, it has a central scene in green with a windmill to the left, a large tree to the right and a house with a steeple in the center as a background. There are people in forefront of the center. There are trees and fencing, as well as clouds in the sky. The 12 sided bordered edge of the plate has a nice design depicting a windmill and people with an animal surrounded by a foliage or vine frame repeating throughout. This platter is marked as to the maker and has a Type A pottery English registry mark. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1853 Origin: Hanley, Staffordshire, England
Very nice and uncommon pattern by a potter from Northern Staffordshire. Condition: Platter is in very good condition with no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. It does have a slight chip on the underside of the rim which is unnoticeable from above and it's not sharp. The platter has some indication of onset of glaze crazing but these signs are very difficult to see and they maybe just surface scratches. Other than that the platter is in great condition with minor soiling at the foot. It also has a few of the normal issues you would expect in a mid 19th century piece of pottery from Staffordshire England, such as pops, slubs, skips of transfer, and unglazed spots. This platter has a minor amount of these and is in particularly great condition. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty and condition of this piece. In Closing: Just a very nice piece with bold and fresh colors in superb condition after being around for over 150 years. This would make a great addition to your collection of Staffordshire pottery.
